I acted as the technical partner for Zapshift, an early-stage e-mobility startup. Working directly with the founders, I architected and built a custom multi-vendor MVP from the ground up to validate their business model.

The problem

Zapshift needed to launch with a sophisticated infrastructure capable of competing with established retailers. The complexities were twofold:

  1. Data Complexity: E-bikes require detailed technical specifications (Range, Battery Type, Motor Wattage) that standard e-commerce platforms don’t support natively.

  2. Vendor Experience: As a marketplace, the platform needed an intuitive dashboard for third-party sellers to upload products without breaking the site’s design system or requiring backend access.

The solution

I built the platform end-to-end, from initial concept to a fully functioning multi-vendor marketplace.

1. Custom Data Architecture (ACF + Crocoblock) Instead of relying on default WooCommerce templates, I built a tailored data structure using ACF and JetEngine. The shop  allowed for search using product details, and filterable attributes. This kept the frontend consistent, accurate, and easy to scale.

2. Frictionless Vendor Onboarding (Dokan) I customised Dokan to create a clean, branded Seller Portal. Vendors could add products, manage stock, and track orders without touching the backend – all while maintaining consistent styling and a trustworthy buying experience.

3. Performance-First Design I ensured the marketplace stayed fast despite its complexity. The site hit strong Core Web Vitals scores at launch, supporting SEO and improving early conversion rates.

The Results

A launch-ready marketplace

A fully branded, fully functional multi-vendor platform taken from concept to live product — with a consistent design system, clear information architecture, and custom product templates for electric bikes and accessories.

Vendor-friendly operations

Non-technical vendors can onboard, list products, and manage orders through a dedicated Seller Portal, without needing access to the WordPress backend or touching any layout.

Spec-driven product discovery

Customers can compare bikes by range, battery, motor and other key specs using structured data and faceted filters, making it easier to find the right product quickly.

Performance and SEO-ready

The site was built with lean templates, dynamic fields, and a modular design system, supporting strong Core Web Vitals and providing a solid foundation for future SEO and paid acquisition.

When we first spoke to Leila, we only had an idea and a vision for what Zapshift could become. She turned that vision into a fully realised marketplace with a modern brand, a seamless user experience, and vendor tools that just work. Every part of the platform feels carefully thought through, from product discovery to seller onboarding. Leila brought clarity, speed, and a high level of technical ability to every stage of the project.
