For this project, I helped a couple streamline how they communicate with their home-exchange partners. I created a secure, multilingual online hub where verified guests can access house instructions, appliance how-to videos and local recommendations before and during their stay.

The challenge

The homeowners needed a simple, reliable way to share essential house information with their home-exchange partners. Emailing long instructions, videos, and check-in details had become messy and time-consuming, and they wanted a central place where guests could easily access everything they needed before and during their stay. Crucially, personal information – such as access instructions and internal house videos – needed to be protected and visible only to verified guests.

The solution

I created a lightweight, secure WordPress website designed specifically for home-exchange communication. The site combines three key components:

  1. Private, password-protected guest area
    A restricted-access section where approved guests can view house rules, check-in instructions, appliance how-to videos, and security information – all stored safely behind login protection.

  2. Easy client updates
    The structure was built so the homeowners can upload new videos, update instructions, or add seasonal information without technical knowledge. This empowers them to keep the site fresh for each exchange.

  3. Multilingual experience (4 languages)
    Using a translation plugin, the entire site can be viewed in four languages, ensuring international guests can comfortably navigate key content.

  4. Local area guide
    A public-facing section with photos, recommendations, and travel information created to help potential exchange partners understand the location and neighbourhood.
